Our Business

Operating from Melaka with the newest factory commissioned in 2011, Leeden Powerweld uses either European or Japanese designed production plants and machinery that are built to meet international standards.

The use of computerized and logic control ensures consistency of product quality and output. All the wires used for manufacturing are cleaned via chemical means prior to copper-coating to ensure a clean and continuous surface of copper plating.

We are able to keep abreast with the latest development in production machinery and manufacturing technology with a well-developed international network with multi-national manufacturers. Our technical director also travels frequently to seek latest developments and apply them to our manufacturing facilities.

Our experienced engineers carry out regular programmed machine maintenance on our machinery to ensure optimum production performance is achieved.

In addition to this, Leeden Powerweld’s production schedules are based on a “pull” system, in which products are manufactured as quickly as they are delivered to customers. Through this system, we are able to ensure that there is always sufficient stock in our warehouses at any point in time. This enables the company to maintain a high efficiency in our production of goods.

Our Factories

Commissioned in 1985, Factory 1 consists of a plot of land area of 43,500 square feet, with a covered area of 2,000 square feet. With this site being the first of the Leeden Powerweld factories set up, Factory 1 consists of the Leeden Powerweld Head Office which takes up 2 areas of 6,400 square feet of space each. The Head Office spaces, each of which consists of 2 levels, holds all of its corporate activities such as its Administrative, Sales, Marketing and Finance departments. The current facility is presently focused on the production of the Submerged Arc Wire (SAW) Consumables and is capable of holding a capacity of 1,040 tons per year.

Products

The Powerweld Submerged Arc range is typically used for processes such as the welding of heavy structural beams, shipbuilding and the welding of offshore rigs and large pressure vessels. Our range of SAW covers all sizes in the S1 and S2 ranges with standard packaging in 30kg coils, 40kg and 700kg bulk packs. Special packaging is available at the customer’s request.

Equipment

Operated with 2 machine operators present at all times to ensure smoothness of the processes as well as the quality of products manufactured, the factory runs a 10 to 12 hour shift, depending on the amount of factory loading at that time. In order to ensure a consistent copper coating of high quality, each chemical bath is analysed and adjusted for correct levels of acid and copper on a daily basis by our qualified chemist.

Machinery employed in this factory consists of:

  • 1 Dry Drawing machine coupled to a copper coating-line
  • 1 bulk coiling machine
  • 1 small de-reeling plant
Facilitates the spooling of commercial sized 25kg coils

Established in 2001, Factory 2 takes up a total land area of 87,120 square feet with a covered area of 53,400 square feet. Factory operations of this site vary from single shifts to 24 hour operations depending on the production loading required at each point in time. This particular site is dedicated to the production and processing of MIG, TIG & Gas Rod consumables with a total capacity of:

  • MIG Wires, 4396 tons per year
  • Gas Rods and TIG Rods, 426 tons per year

Products

MIG Wires

Suitable for a wide range of welding applications for the joining of mild and medium strength steel, our MIG Wires cover a full range of sizes from 1.6mm, 1.4mm, 1.2mm, 1.0mm, 0.9mm, 0.8mm and to a very fine 0.6mm. Leeden Powerweld’s MIG Wires can be wound into plastic spools or wire baskets in either a precision layer fashion or a random layer. Our plastic spool designs can be supplied to meet either JIS or DIN standards.

Gas Rods and TIG Rods

Our Gas rods and TIG rods are suitable for applications such as the welding of car bodies, thin sheet metals, and joining of fine stainless steel applications. Straightened, cut to length, embossed and packed to customer requirements, our Gas Rods and TIG Rods come in all sizes from 0.6mm to 4.8mm and range from quality EL, S6 to special alloy. Packaging is at the customer’s request of polythene bags, sealed plastic tubes or cardboard containers.

Equipment

Factory 2 is operated through a myriad of equipment that is essential to the bulk production process of the welding consumables. These machines are:

  • Dry Drawing machines
Reduces 5.5mm Feed Rods to 2.0-1.8 mm as a first drawing process before the Fine Wire Wet Drawing
  • 10 Fine Wet Drawing machines coupled to Chemical Deposition Coppering Tanks
Completes the drawing process to produce copper coated MIG Welding Wires through the range of 0.6mm to 1.6mm in diameter
  • 8 high speed spooling machines
Re-spools Bulk wires from the Wet Draw section into saleable 15kg plastic spools

The latest addition to the Leeden Powerweld operations, Factory 3 was commissioned in 2011. Specifically designed for the manufacture and testing of MMA Stick Electrodes, Factory 3 covers a total land area of 138,320 square feet with 66,300 square feet of covered area.

The total capacity of the plant is 28 tons per single shift of 11 hours and is completely dependent upon the type and size of electrodes produced. With an average product mix, the capacity is 8,400 tons.
